In 1958, I was stationed in Fontainebleau, France with the US Army. I was an archivist assigned to SHAPE Headquarters. One day I was exiting my office building to take documents to the central archives. Upon passing through the door to the courtyard, I saw Gen. Spiedel walking towards me with his German Shepard. When we about 25 feet apart. We both looked up and saw a white circular object hoovering over the Chateau Headquarters. We both look at each other to acknowledge that we saw the object and then as we were looking at it, it began to move away from us in a very fast acceleration. I saluted the General and he smiled and turned back towards his office. I returned to my office and told the people there about my experience. They laughed and that was the end of it. Except that the French press at the time and maybe the US Army times reported many sightings througout France and even showed charts and lines of flight of the sightings. That is about it. I am 68 years of age and that happened when I was 19 |
