i was walking home from a friend's house when i looked up in the southern sky to find the Orion Constellation. A routine thing i do when i am walking at night. something to the west caught my eye and at first i thought it was an airplane. Being as i was under a flight path for the Salt Lake City airport. i saw two lights, red and blue, that were blinking like an airplane's wing-lights. the reason i kept watching this was because it was out of the normal flight path for the routine Aircraft even though it was in the same altitude. the lights were moving at a rather slow speed and gradually came to a stop mid-air. i was confused at what i was seeing so i started to think of excuses to why an airplane could stop mid-air. i had to rule out poor visiblity because it was a very clear night. the lights just continued to blink normally but gradually started blinking faster and started rotating around a center point. not strictly in a circle but more like a gyro. again it started slowly and then gradually got faster and faster untill the lights were blurring together. then without any warning they suddenly stopped for half of a second then dissapeard. i could not and still can not explain what i saw and i can say that i have never seen anything like it since that time.
