I think two reason, maybe one or the other, or both.
1. Panic. The world has a history of doing dumb things, and with 6 billion people there are bound to be riots in governments, militias formed, and even attacks on the aliens.
2. Maybe the
governments of the world KNOW what the aliens would do if we knew. Thy seem to want to keep secrecy, and may be afraid of how humans will react. If they see their mission is compromised...what would aliens do, you know?
