Mysterious Object - 20 July 2003

This would appear to be an elaborate hoax, except we know that it was not very difficult to stage this UFO photograph. We received this photo from a website visitor who only identified himself as "Iron Hoof". Apparently, a friend of his told him he believed that the photo above may be a UFO. Iron Hoof then sent us the photo, asking us to publish it in the iwasabducted.com UFO Photo Gallery. Upon viewing the photo, we replied with a series of questions about the alleged sighting:

iwasabducted.com: Interesting! Do you know anything else about the photo?

Iron Hoof:  Well I don't I just took a look at it to see what it was, I think it might be an airplane but I can't tell. Either way its unidentified hence why I thought you guys might like it.

iwasabducted.com: Did your friend take the photo and see the object?

Iron Hoof: He said he saw it yea. He was out with a couple friends its a supposed zoomed photo it was far away.

iwasabducted.com: When and where was the photo taken?

Iron Hoof: I don't know when, but he said, "It was taken in West Virginia"

iwasabducted.com: We would be interested in the details.

Iron Hoof: No problem, it could be anything, I'm a sceptic after all but I don't throw out possibilities. If you can figure out what it is, let me know. I'm just as curious.

We later received another email from Iron Hoof to follow up on the UFO picture:

SUBJECT:  Re: UFO (found out what it was)

Okay I talked to my friend over the phone to find out more and I told him I submitted it to a UFO website gallery and he freaked out and told me what it was. HE and his friends were DRINKING and playing with his BLUE plastic lamp that was shaped like a UFO so they hung the cord out the window and popped it up on a pole with a rope and took some picture to prank ME.

Here I highlighted the photo evidence after he explained he e-mailed me a picture of him holding it on the pole waving. It was taken with a digital camera right here in the city in a backyard. The digital camera doesn't pick up any background images in he dark. The second one is from another picture copied and pasted in a photo editor.

Photo evidence below, I find this kind of prank silly, and good example why people shouldn't drink.

However you have permission to post these photos as example of what is not the real McCoy if you like. Glad I was able to get him to talk before they made a fool of themselves.

We still had one last question:

iwasabducted.com: You indicate that the second photo used to create the hoax picture was "from another picture copied and pasted in a photo editor."  That "other picture" looks like a UFO. Was it also a hoax? If so, do you know how it was created? If not, do you know the source of the other object used to create the hoax? Was the "other object" a legitimate UFO photograph?

Iron Hoof: That I don't know! But it might be two of the same picture only different angles of the same object.
