Nordic Encounter

It was the summer of 1992 in Mt. Juliet, Tenn., I was 16 years old. Around 2 am I suddenly awoke with an overwhelming feeling that I was being watched by someone. I remember darting my eyes to the doorway and seeing a human-like figure standing there. The room was dark with faint moonlight shining in but this figure was completely black. I could see a shape of what appeared to be a tall man about 6 feet in height. It stood still and stared at me as I fought to let out a scream but my body was in a state of paralysis. I fought hard to awaken my mother who I slept with that night but could not physically move or speak. I remember seeing my chest rise and fall rapidly as my body went into fight or flight mode. I could feel my heart pound. I could hear every amplified beat. I notified the figure was holding something shiney, like an abnormally shiney knife. It turned it back and forth as if to give me an optimal view of what it was holding. I was petrified and feared it was there to kill me. It then started slowly walking across the room, and got to the foot of the bed on the farside of the room when I was overcome with an intense desire to sleep. My fear quickly dissapated and I actually felt a sense of relief and calm. It seems the being spoke to me and told me it was ok. I don't remember anything else. What happened to me? Was this a nightmare?
